Today officially marks one year since zoom laid myself and a bunch of other new grads. Only one of us got in at service now, fuck him too. Nobody will hire us in this market because we have like no experience. This is career hell
It’s not hard just apply
The worst time to be on the market. Just survive
The mission: Survive
Not being mean, genuinely curious: is the market that bad so even noname nontech companies don’t hire people with little experience ?
This is what I’m wondering. Do these people just need to lower their bar and apply at smaller companies?
Yes, the problem is these new grads think they are owed a job at Google at $250K TC straight away when they need to just go work the trenches for a few years.
Terrible time to be a new grad no kidding. I’d honestly consider getting a PhD if I were you
if you haven’t hit bottom, keeping digging yourself a bigger hole
I would not. Then your future job prospects (for academia and possibly industry) depend on arbitrary reviews from another grad student who probably didn’t read half of the paper you submitted.
What was your TC before the layoff?
Kids these days are too entitled.
Damn bro I’m sorry to hear. I’m one layoff away from being in ur shoes. At 1 YOE but literally fear every day that I might be unemployed and struggle to find a job bc whenever I do apply it’s crickets Have you had no interviews at all?
Yes it’s a terrible time to be a new grad. Speaking from experience after the layoffs. Completely lost as of what to do, working on my own company! We’ll see how it goes
If you don’t have visa problems, I’d suggest you look into government jobs and contract jobs. If you can get clearance, much less competition.
That sucks
