I've been thinking whether I made a wrong decision turning down their offer and was thinking of going there after FB but all I see on Blind is Airbnb'ers complaining. What's wrong?
Hear nothing but great things from folks at airbnb.
This isn't what I've been seeing on blind though.
Maybe because people go on blind to bitch about work. I like working at amazon and have great comp and WLB, but if you judged amazon by blind comments you’d think it’s a shit place to work.
Why is Airbnb not going IPO if it is already profitable?
Is that the source of complaints?
Yeah definitely has a lot to do with it. It was implied coming into this year that we would IPO sometime relatively soon, but then there were disagreements, CFO “left,” it is clearly not happening very soon (all reported publicly). Many people are disappointed. Some vent on Blind.
no IPO in sight, mass exodus is real
I guess the question is why IPO? No need to raise capital on public markets for us and being public decreases flexibility. “Mass exodus” has not happened yet, but probably depends on company’s ability to provide liquidity to employees absent an IPO. Aside from liquidity it is a great place to work for many and seems like a lot of people are so far willing to be patient.
Liquidity is an obligation to employees, investors.
Just some normal growing pains and the big letdown of the IPO delay. We have some new leadership around that seems likely to make big improvements though. It’s still an amazing place to work (and WLB is far better than FB usually)
Not growing pains. Everyone is leaving and there are major culture problems. If you actually read a single post in the company channel you would know this is the case. You’re probably hr though.
please check attrition numbers, it's not that bad. we had abnormally low churn for a very long time. we just had a lot of very visible departures since we send company wide emails whenever someone leaves
Not going IPO announcement was a huge deflator, and this happened right after laying off huge number of kitchen staff, and some drama in one of the overseas office in China, so lots of cynical posts afterwards. They were all poorly handled and announced internally. Despite all its problems, Airbnb has been great so far personally. Challenging problems and lots of projects to do with mostly great coworkers.
blind is a bit of a biased pool to pull from. things are pretty good, just complaints about what had already been mentioned above
You made the right decision. It’s a shit show here.
HR has come out in full force lol. If they only spent this much time addressing the sexual harassment complaints at the company, it would actually be as good of a place to work as they say it is.
there's sexual harassment complaints?
there have been a few anonymous comments but no one will actually share anything aside from one issue that was taken care of last year. my guess is trolls but there is no way to know for sure. not sure if I would share if I was in that position
Grass always appears greener on the other side.
