my daughter has medical challenges and will need a comprehensive surgery within the next 2-3 years. while ive been at FB, ive had $100K+ of medical bills for her 100% covered by FB’s phenomenal insurance. we also have an app where we can ask all medical / insurance / billing questions and its been incredible. we are moving from chi to boston and i have an offer from amazon and going to hiring committee for google. i expect google offer to be slightly higher from a comp perpsective, but im also evaluating on benefits. anyone out there who have had you or a family member go through intense medical issues? how was the coverage? current TC: $180k amazon offer: $220k anticipated google offer: $260k
Who has better anything for employees google or amazon? Blanket answer is google. Amazon provides employees with bare minimum for everything.
That’s my assumption and what I know to be true for perks, but I wanted to get some actual info to confirm
Amazon insurance is decent but not 100%. You will be responsible for 100% from $1500 to $3000 and 10% after upto $6000. So maximum you pay is $4500 provided you choose in network provider.
Thank you! And do you find the in network options are good? She sees major specialists - we flew out of state for her surgery Bc the Chi surgeons, even though good, were not the beef for her rare situation. She also has lots of therapists for her occupational and physical rehab that are 100% covered
I recommend check the plan for specific doctors before you move. We found specialists for our unique situation.
You are asking if the company famous for benefits or the company famous for lack of benefits and frugality has better benefits?
Meh , Microsoft and intel both have amazing insurance options better then the rest last time I checked. Amazons insurance is very solid
As a parent of a child with medical issues, you can never have enough reassurance. I understand it’s an obvious question but it’s still one I feel better asking and confirming what I think I know. Best of luck to you and health for tour family for 2020.
You can just ask for the insurance coverage summary from each plan when you get your offer. I always do, have always gotten it without hesitation. They usually have a few page pdf with the relevant costs/coverage. You can lookup the doc/networks from there on the insurer site. Many companies just post their coverage summary publicly it is such a common question.
Yeah some companies give it to you before the offer
I agree with this advice. Ask for the insurance package with the offer so you can compare, if it’s not already posted with the recruiting info
Apart from insurance, you will need peace of mind as well in these situations. In my situations at Amazon I found I don't have the luxury of spending good time with family when they needed me most.
Thank you for response. I’m sorry that’s been your experience ❤️
which company did you end up choosing?
Google - and it’s massively better on all fronts so far. I saw Amazons relocation package and googles is 4x more money for same level and much more organized
Good. Congratulations In terms of work life balance and PIP , is FB very bad or manageable ? Are you finding Facebook better in terms of wlb ?
Can you transfer within Fb?
I wish! My role is not at fb Bos and the case to be remote is disappointingly hard. Esp given FB came out w portal, it’s really not supported for employees.
