I’ve been delivering for Bite Squad as a side hustle for about a month now. Having a professional career as an engineer, it has been an adjustment being treated differently when I walk into an establishment. Do restaurants dislike pick up/delivery services (bite squad, grubhub, door dash, etc)? If so, why? I am always polite, friendly, and put together. I wait patiently and speak clearly. Still, I feel treated worse then the guy in the back doing the dishes. All input welcome...
Some people , no matter how low they are, look for others they think are beneath them to treat poorly. It’s gross.
I think some delivery services take a cut off the top, so the restaurant can end up making very little off the dishes while adding a lot more overhead. Also supposedly some places(DoorDash) will just scrape their menu and call in orders as if they’re regular customers, so it creates a lot more traffic without letting the restaurant actually prepare or handle it.
The delivery services take a cut of the subtotal, up to 30%. Then they charge a “service” fee and delivery fee on top of that.
Some food doesn’t travel well, so then people leave a bad review but it’s not quite the restaurant’s fault.
Op, how much do you make with each delivery?...may be the answer lies in that.
What do you mean why? Low paid workers are doing work with no tip.
Could be in your head because you’re doing something that you perceive to be beneath you. Also, people around you might be miserable so it feels like they’re treating you poorly while they’re just sharing their misery. Most clerks in NYC don’t even say hi or anything when I checkout. I just assume they’re miserable and ignore them.
Good point!
No tips
It’s weird to me, because it’s not like a customer picking up a to go order is going to tip either.
Do people tip on takeout?
