Hey folks, got two offers in front of me and wanted to get some thoughts. Johnson & Johnson: Staff Engineer in Surgical Vision. Base $150k, Signing $10k, bonus 12%. 20 days PTO, no RSU. So TC $168k. Pension works out to $164,500 lump sum if I only stay 5 years, avg. 3% raise. Seemed more focused on building my long term career into management. Abbott: Senior Engineer in Abbott Diabetes Care. Base $155k, no signing, bonus 15%, 15 days PTO, RSU is typically $10k vesting 1/3 per year, so TC should be about $181k. Pension works out to $765/month for life if I only stay 5 years, avg. 3% raise. More focused about here and now as an IC. Both nearly 100% remote. Any experiences between the two companies? Planning on staying for a while in my next role. Current TC $143k YoE 6
What part of jnj is it? Vision care, depuy, mitek, robotics/monarch/ottava, or ethicon? Lots of these teams spend tons of time on politics because they all overlap a bit...
Med devices, vision care specifically
Sorry, no experience with vision care 🤷 jnj in general seems to have a difficult year ahead with cost reductions, consumer split off, expired patents on meds,...
What location is this for both. CA has somewhat higher salaries to account for cost of living, so those need to be factored in
Los Angeles area for both. Not the bay, thank God.
For SoCal it seems decent. I know a staff eng making close to 160k in LA.. just speaking base.. dont know the remainder of their package
Good to know. They're super steadfast about not going any higher, I've already negotiated up after they tried to do $140k which ain't gonna work.
Working for both, I'd say Abbott and that's because besides the salary the benefits you are allowed as well as the stock plan allows you to sit quite comfortably financially but the atmosphere is good too. No micromanagers and everyone helps each other if need be
What Abbott divsion and loaction it is?
Diabetes Care, remote role and I'd be in Los Angeles
Abbott Diabetes care! What’s the grade level? I can tell you if it’s in the upper range
Grade 18 I think
Yes sounds like grade 18 looking at those numbers in the Bay Area. Is this for ADC or Lingo?
Does anyone know what would be the salary range for staff security architect??
What grade level?
Of all the Abbott, ADC is the best.
I've heard that it's a good place to be
Do you happen to know the pay scale for staff security architect
If it matters, J&J has been going since Thanksgiving on this. Me throwing out negotiation terms basically stalled it until the last two weeks, which is why I started to interview with Abbott (which came back to me with the offer in a week). Is that going to be reflective of how things work over at J&J or was that just shockingly slow?
J&J is painstakingly slow for everything from on boarding to IT to decision making.
From my own experience, I got a verbal offer from JNJ 2 weeks after submitting the online application. But most teams are slow.
not my personal experience, but one of my friends used to work for abbott and she didn't like it cause of too many micromanagers .. but she isn't in IT so that could differ
