Twilio or Zendesk

L3 Twilio or Z2 Zendesk Both are fully remote software engineer roles Twilio offer (256k TC): 167k base 21k sign on bonus 68k equity (per year) Zendesk offer (175k TC): 139k base 14k equity (per year) 15k sign on bonus 5% salary bonus at end of year Clearly the Twilio TC is way better, but they say Zendesk has the best work life balance of anywhere, and I hear Twilio has a PIP problem nearly as bad as Amazon’s.

There is no pip problem here!! Where did this rumor come from??? What’s your YOE? And how did you get a sign on bonus from Twilio I thought we don’t do those.

Memorial Sloan u7b OP Sep 7, 2021

4 YOE I had to negotiate a bit - Original offer had no sign on bonus (for either company). Regarding PIP rumor, if you search “Twilio PIP” on blind, you will see what I’m talking about

Criteo deep🚀 Oct 22, 2021

Wow seeing your offer I have been lowball to death. 140k base / 40k stocks for L3 position in NYC (YOE: 3.5)

Twilio unUb86 Sep 7, 2021

I’ve also seen the pip on blind but it seems to only be one or two people who are posting that every where. Definitely no pip culture here.

Twilio beHonest1 Sep 7, 2021

There is pip problem in Twilio. Don't lie to him.

Twilio beHonest1 Sep 7, 2021

There is pip quota which should be filled every year. This means that bottom 5-10% would be piped every year. This is how they build pressure on everyone. It's pretty similar to Amazon.

Twilio unUb86 Sep 7, 2021

Ive never heard of this or seen someone pip’d or fired even

Twilio Coast312 Sep 7, 2021

As a manager - it’s nearly impossible to get rid of low performers here. No idea where this PIP culture stuff is coming from.

Twilio beHonest1 Sep 7, 2021

Stop lying because people are not joining because of your low-ball offers and pip stories. I will admit that I am not going to leave since I have plenty of unvested stock vesting this year. But this doesn't mean we should lie here. This community is build to tell the truth to everyone. Be honest.

Twilio CrazySimp Sep 7, 2021

What are you talking about with low ball? They offered him $100k more than zendesk lol. > “Wahhh don’t join Twilio it sucks pip and low money!!!” > “lol I’m not leaving bc they pay well”

VMware ctfp55 Sep 7, 2021

Opt Twilio for now. Stay there for a year and see for yourself. Apply to Zendesk next year if what you feared about Twilio turns out to be true. It will take you years to reach Twilio's TC in Zendesk.

Twilio unUb86 Sep 7, 2021

What team in twilio?

Twilio vaporice Sep 7, 2021

I manage multiple teams at Twilio (4+) I can confirm there is no pip quota , I have never been forced to pip anyone in the last 3+ years of being at Twilio. OP: if you want to chat more, feel free to DM

Twilio akdxn Sep 7, 2021

Join Zendesk. The stock might have lost potential.

Twilio greenfig Sep 7, 2021

Dunno about Zendesk but WLB at Twilio is A+

Twilio akdxn Sep 8, 2021

Lol thats a joke

Zendesk 1019ftw Sep 7, 2021

Take Twilio offer Zendesk has the best WLB, but that also means career stagnation. I would recommend you to join once you’re at the rest-n-vest phase of your life (Staff+ level) but not as junior. Once you join, your pay is “anchored” to the original offer and it’s hard to get increases even with promotions.
