Amazon/FANG on-call pager?
How does Amazon paging happen? I'm joining in June. Do you use some special device? Something that nags the shit out of you to make sure you wake up? Or just smartphone notifications? Currently we just use Slack alerts. Not always great since I very well might not wake up with a single notification at 3:30 AM. And I usually use Bedtime on iPhone to block all notifications at night.
There is an app called pong paging and it usually overrides all the silent notifications setting thing of your smartphone to make sure that it can wake the shit out of you anytime of the day.
What happen to Ping Pager? They got acquired?
It's an internal thousand years old app.
Besides Pong, you can set up the system to call your or SMS you. You can have your IPhone allow repeat calls through even if in DnD mode, so that would be an option too.
Is everyone in Amazon supposed to have this pager and be ready to wake up during night? Or is it on-call roles only?
Yes. It’s rotating. Just hope you don’t work for a group that is always putting out fires.
