The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn (for Senior Software Developer). The company looks good, and the work seems interesting. The reviews on Glassdoor are talking about bad leadership, which were posted in a particular time window (maybe the RTO fiasco and lay-offs). Can anyone from inside provide a transparent picture? Is it still a good time to join? TC: 150K #klaviyo
I have a friend who works on one of the AI teams at Amazon, and I’ve only heard bad things (outside of the money), but my honest advice is to stick to the evil that you know. I would not advise anybody to transition to Klaviyo at this juncture. Terrible leadership. I think the reviews on here and on Glassdoor do not actually scrape the surface on how bad it is. And from speaking to people across the org, these issues are widespread and permeate virtually all teams. You could be one of the lucky few, however. Nothing exists in absolutes. RTO is a relatively recent factor, in comparison to a lot of the other critiques. Incompetence, outright lies, discrimination are but a few of the hallmarks of Klaviyo’s leadership and middle managers. A standard wonderfully set by the CEO.
Xyun has been constantly complaining about klaviyo for well over a year. I'm not sure why he is still here. Yes, leadership made some questionable calls earlier this year, but things have stabilized. Overall it's still a pretty good company to work for.
Is reading comprehension a struggle for you? lol It was literally in my opening sentence: “…stick to the evil that you know.” Everything has its respective context. And more than 1 thing can be true at the same time: so disliking this company and its leadership, and making sure I still profit from my job are not mutually exclusive. The idea that any system or organization is above reproach, and people should simply leave; is very daft to me. The premise of this app, is for candid reviews about one’s place of employment. So either you’re a corporate drone (which is embarrassing for you), or you’re one of the incompetent leaders in this company (a different kind of embarrassing). If it’s the former, it’s totally fine if you have a different experience from others. It doesn’t negate other people’s realities 😂
It’s nothing special. Good luck.
If you don't live close to Boston, keep looking. Leadership is fairly adamant about RTO. As far as if it's a good place or not, it's fine. If you want to chase pre-IPO companies, you could do much worse. The CEO can do some weird moves at times but engineering leadership seems genuine to me. The company used to be VERY employee-focused but that has been dialed back a bit (still good though). Ask good questions about the teams you're interviewing for since some teams are better than others.
Ah that’s unfortunate. I’ll still go through the interview for fun then. My heart stays with remote 🫠
Overall my experience so far is that at this point the company is just the same as everywhere else and has no real benefit to join in terms of culture, WLB, etc. If I was making a decision I'd consider Klaviyo only from a compensation perspective which probably won't be as competitive as other tech offers.
Terrrrrible leadership and the worst company culture I’ve ever experienced in tech. Take the offer if you’re a masochist who loves to hate their life
