Just got this offer from NXP Austin. Base $145k Bonus 12% Signon 20k Total RSU vest in 3 or 4 yr?: 50K YOE : MS + 8 analog ic design Current tc : 170k What are the levels at nxp? Hm said it is principal. I feel this is very low considering relocation. #nxp #ti Update Dec. 9, 2021 Offer rejected or rescinded. They are not willing to increase any further.
NXP does not pay well
No eXtra Pay
This is a G4 level which is principal. Base seems reasonable. RSUs are over 3 years with refreshers typically around 20% of Base. Your sign-on can go higher. Ask them to at least match your current unvested RSUs. I got 40K RSUs 4 years ago for G3. Ask for 75K RSUs.
Ok. Is Sr. Principal the highest level IC?
No. I think it's Fellow/G7
Is your 50k RSU per year or over 3 yrs ? If its the latter, the TC of ~ 180k seems low for 8 YoE Analog Design in Austin. I would target a TC of 210k-220k. Base looks reasonable, may be you can ask for an increase in the RSU.
50k is over 3yrs.
It's really amazing how much TC varies by company and location for similar work. I wonder how much remote work will start to average this out.
It really is. I am praying industry compensation will go up as more and more people shift to SW engineering
That shift has already happened en masse over the past 20 years. Most big tech company HR track this very closely and I've seen the hard data. From dot com era to today HW majors have dropped by close to 80% while SW has seen the opposite boost. TC hasn't changed because HW demand has also plummeted. Now that everyone wants to do their own HW, and the pipeline is dry, there should be wage pressure. The most important data point is between Apple, NVDA, and Meta-FRL, large growing companies that will compete for HWE and willing to pay top of market. This will set the tone for HW comp like FB / G has done for SWE. So far I've seen FRL offer some good TC to poach Apple HWE but I've also seen some lowball offers.
How is WLb in nxp is it chilled out in place if I want to work 40hours a week
It has pretty bad WLB, pay and management.
@OP mind if I DM you?
Sure. You can send me dm.
Try others to have competing offers. Like Intel Qualcomm etc
Leave semi industry and join big tech…
How? Leetcode? How to learn system design? How to get interview in the first place?
I am about to leave Silabs and join apple as a HWE. But yeah, you can switch to SWE if you have the dedication.
Try nvidia
Was rejected ... Sigh
I suspect you could probably do better elsewhere.
