Joined some shitty startup. 150k liquid TC + some useless options. What is the game plan for me to get out of this poverty? How would it be received if I tried to interview for other places after just one year? Would I be interviewing for L3 or L4 at that point? Should I just kms? EDIT: I really dislike the work & team. Otherwise 150k is plenty lol. YoE: 0 (new grad)
Wow aren’t you an entitled asshat/troll
😂😂😂😂 hope this is sarcastic
Here is my honest opinion. It is a very controversial opinion, many people won’t agree with me. When I’m hiring, I don’t care that you bounced around from company to company a lot. Say your last ten jobs only lasted a month each. Is that a problem? Not necessarily. It could be that you are just bad at knowing which companies to join, not a bad engineer. Many companies are really bad and should be left after a month. If you don’t like your current job, there is no reason that I know of that you shouldn’t also be applying to other jobs.
Go out on a big tc/ life insurance (—— this much———-)
I used to think that software engineering sucked. It turned out that the first five companies I worked at were miserable places to work
You'd interview for L3. Don't need to wait for an year either, just say you did not look like the work/needed more exposure/or something similar. Also, 150k liquid is not poverty fool. If it feels like poverty, you're doing something wrong.
Getting a work visa was really annoying. Wouldn't want to go through that process again in under a year. At what point would I be considered as L4?
At 2-3 yoe minimum.
Also, you sound like you should really call a suicide prevention hotline. Or make a post on r/getting_over_it for support
Lmao you’re doing great don’t jump. Find a better job! There are so many engineers you need to separate yourself from the pack by joining super successful companies or doing something really impressive. good luck
The entitlement
Average TC for new grad Google is 200k. Without entitled ppl driving up market prices, all of our salaries become lower.
It's a bit lower than that and you aren't in google. You are in a startup. It's like working in Underwater Basket Weaving bank and expecting Goldman Sach's salary. 150k is much above the norm out of college even in SF.
