I recently completed my final interview loop at AWS. It went exceedingly well, but was informed that the team believes I’m a good fit for Amazon, but would like to find a role that is ‘more closely aligned to what I’m doing now’. I’m a bit confounded by this outcome- if the role/my background was in question- wouldn’t that have been flagged within the first two phone screens, prior to the finals loop?? Interested to hear if anyone have any experience to share here? How reliable are the opportunities/ will the recruiters work diligently to find a suitable role with another team or proceed as being blasé. Thank you for the input!
Legally their recruiters can’t give additional feedback beyond what you’ve received. As I understand, there are two questions asked of interviewers, and if both are answered affirmative, you’ll receive an offer: 1. Good fit for amazon? 2. Perfect fit for the role? If you receive a negative on both, then it’s difficult to get an interview in the future.
Sounds pretty straight forward- it’s always possible that there is an internal hire or another candidate that is better qualified/connected. Really disappointed but trying to maintain a positive attitude about next steps
It’s tough after spending that time and energy prepping. At least you’re pushing boundaries, and choosing positions that are a reach, rather than safe choices.
You probably did great at the LPs, but below the bar on one or more key competencies for the role.
Thanks for the feedback. What confuses me is that the entirety of the questions were directed at LPs in STAR format..if I were beneath the bar in role based competencies or proficiencies, wouldn’t that have been raised prior to the on-site? Just finding that hard to reconcile
Sometimes they’ll go ahead and still interview you though you’re not the exact fit for the role itself, simply because if you’re inclined overall for Amazon (vs. amazon AND the role), it’ll be easier to place you in the right fit since they’ve collected detailed feedback that would help them place you even if not at that specific role. I would suggest you keep in touch with your recruiter and ask if there are any other recruiters they can point you to that may have openings that better line up what they think you’re better suited for. Hope this helps!
I’m in the same position, and two other blinders in the last couple of weeks for the same role I interviewed for. My guess is that the hiring manager is looking for something very specific, such as riding in on a magical flaming steed with a sign that says “bananas instead or bust”. In all seriousness, if we have that many people interviewing and not getting the job, the recruiting process might be failing somewhere in screening for that special something. ETA: I’ve heard nothing regarding any new opportunities. I was told to apply for what I wanted on the website, I was NOT told that they’d find me another suitable position.
Hmm. What exactly did the recruiter share with you? Mine sounded very positive..’we see you here at amazon, but will be sharing your info with other teams to find a better fit’. She encouraged me to follow up with my original recruiter POC on areas of interest.. was this similar to your experience
My original recruiter walked me the whole way through, so there was no redirect to my original recruiter. I was told I was a perfect fit for Amazon, but not for the role. After he rejected me he said to apply for other positions and gave me some job titles to choose from, like engagement director. I’ve heard nothing on my new application. He did not say he’d find me other positions or teams.
They mean you are good enough to join Amazon but don't meet the expectations for the role you interviewed for. So, they want to find a position that can use your skills better. I will suggest you to actively follow up, otherwise, it might just fall from the radar.
Appreciate the insight! After receiving the teams feedback, i applied for a couple of roles that are aligned with my background, and messaged the recruiter indicating my interest. They mentioned that I may not need to perform a full loop. How likely is that?
If it's a different org, they will very likely do the full loops. Also, the longer it takes to get the next interview, the more are the chances of them asking for a full loop.
You didn’t meet the bar for the hire simple as this but you are amazon material. You need to find a team that you like and ping the recruiter or the managers on LinkedIn. Expect another round of interviews. Sorry mate there is nothing positive about this.
Same thing just happened to me. Was told I wasn't a good fit for a Sr. SA role but definitely a fit for Amazon and was encouraged to apply for other roles. Assume I'd have to go through the entire loop again but it'd be nice to be able to skip the phone screening ha
