Amazon HQ2 - Average $150K salary
Amazon just announced two new HQ in NY and N.Virginia (DC metro area) and average salary of 150K. Rents/house prices are crazy and both these locations have very high cost of living - do you think it would make financial sense to move there?! Also, how are these places to raise a family?
Base salary is not much. But Amazon pays quite a lot in RSUs.

Traffic is really bad and it’s going to get worse. Rent for 1br start at $1.5k/mo. in Arlington and will be closer to $2k/mo. when HQ2 opens. CoL is pretty high, here, buying groceries and dinning out is not cheap. With that said, you can live comfortably on $150k salary but you won’t be saving a lot.
Average salary or average total compensation? This is a very significant difference considering most of my income does not come from my salary.
What is the average RSU for entry-Senior level at Amazon?
News articles are saying 150K average salary. What would be approx TC for L6 and L7?

150 should be very comfortable in national landing.
For SDE III add 600k in stock over 4 years and 15K annual bonus.
If you have a family, $150 is low for NYC. You will have to stay in Jersey City and commute, which shouldn't be a problem though.
Commute from Jersey City to Queens can easily go upwards of an hour, whether you come via Lincoln tunnel or the PATH trains. Once you factor in school districts and size/quality of your home, you might have to go east towards Long Island or farther west (NJ) or north (westchester)
I guess it’s been a while since you’ve been to Jersey City. It ain’t cheap anymore, at least not Grove St. or closer to the city.
