HW Engineer compensation in the Bay Area

I interviewed at Nuro recently for a Hardware role and got the reject call today. I gave 120k as my base salary expectation. Although I don't think the salary was the reason for my rejection, I want to make sure my ask is not too high. So what is the average base salary and TC for a Hardware role with 2-3 YOE in the big tech companies and unicorns?

In the bay area? Hardware eng? Yeah, you’re looking at 50-75k, chump. 120k is for 10 YOE and new grad software engineers only.

Hope that's a sarcastic comment!

That’s BS! You asked for way less in my opinion. Go higher. And yes salary doesn’t seem like the reason. If it was, then fuck Nuro!

It’s definitely not too high for tier 1 hw companies. Not sure about others

Nuro is struggling to monetize and build a truly mission critical stack... Try others for HW.

Interesting. What makes you say that (struggling to monetize and build a truly mission critical stack)? I haven’t heard a deluge of positive, but I haven’t that either

Many others in the autonomous/ AI/ automation space so- super crowded.

Our ME engineers make probably 160k + RSU

Do they use ATM machines to withdraw their RSU units?

120K is way too low, they did you a favor by rejecting you
