I’m interested in things like robotics and computer vision. However as a new grad, I can’t seem to land any positions like these; most look for masters/PhD people who have a lot of experience already. I kind of don’t want to do more school yet, and I have a full time standard SWE job lined up that I think I’ll enjoy. Is it reasonable for me to work as a regular swe for now, and then do a masters later to specialize? Or am I shooting myself in the foot here?
Where do you want to live?
I think you can get by with a few years of work experience under your belt. I know software developers working on robotics who don't have masters for example but have a few years of SWE experience and that was enough to join a robotics team within the company. But if you are thinking more in the lines of doing research or becoming a scientist kind of role then yes a masters/ PhD specialization would probably be needed.
You should be able to get some jobs in these areas even with bachelors. Try joining some company and then do internal transfer after 1 year. That’s easier. (Uber has a very liberal transfer policy, check for that in the companies you are interested in)
Yeah just continue with school
