I worked in food service during college a few years ago in a state where minimum wage is $2 for servers under the assumption you get tips which could bring up wages to $15-$25 hour (decent for an unskilled college kid working nights/weekends). I busted my ass for tips Now in Seatte, service sucks. People are lazy. Places have automatically added 20% tips and increased minimum wages to $15/hr. Servers are no longer incentivized to deliver higher quality service I was always a pretty good tipper (25-30%) to support and promote good service but living here makes me wish these guys were making $2/hr so they’re incentivized by tips. I’m also super polite and easy going with wait staff so I’m not making their lives difficult Anyone else think service in Seattle sucks and servers should be paid far less with a higher potential for tips?
Welcome to Republican Party.
Now draw parallels to socialism and free everything.
Seriously. We need to incentivize the right behaviors. Part of the reason why I enjoy commissioned/performance based pay structures
What was your hourly wage after tips, would you guess?
15-25/hr depending on the day/shift which I was happy with
I like no tips at all. If service sux, never go back. I shouldn’t have to pay extra for someone to do their job. If I want extras like someone carrying my bags and that isn’t part of their normal job, I’d gladly pay for the specific service.
Agreed. Been in the Seattle area for a few months now. The food is a huge letdown compared to other cities and the service is passable at best. Not once have I thought yet, "This server was good."
Man up and learn to cook You’ll make better food within a couple weeks and save money I never tip because servers are all fraudsters anyway
I do cook, meal prep every week. I still like to enjoy a meal out
