I'm trying to decide whether to go earn an MBA or a MS in computer science. It's not an easy decision. I have a BS in electrical engineering, with 5 YOE in that, + 5 YOE in data science / cloud / DevOps tech implementation in the consulting world. My career is quite different from you typical SF techies, so it might be hard to gauge me. But I'll take any criticism or insight gladly! Currently in Fed consulting / gov contracting. Want to move to commercial (tech) consulting and eventually to FAANG. Security Clearance: TS/SCI, CI poly YoE: 10 TC: 140 Locale: Hawaii (I say that because the ceiling is low here. Took less to move, but will leave for right TC)
I would do ms in CS just for cool points
Hi. Welcome to Blind. On today’s episode of “This post should have been a poll”
Just added the poll
If degree pricing is any factor in your decision, maybe you could pursue the online masters of comp sci at GA Tech which is less than $15k total. No way you’d find a solid MBA for anywhere near that price
Good advice. I wouldn't want to pay out of pocket. My company offers 10k a year for it so I'd just do what I can in that limit
My two cents- Do neither. Do leetcode and get into FAANG. You will learn more from your colleagues than any degree.
Agree with Amazon. Degrees are typically useless and expensive. If you got technical experience, lc and then go direct to faang. Issue is though, not sure if you really want to leave Hawaii behind to do the whole silicon valley experience. Admittedly, we all get bored of our own circumstances, but it's just ironic that people pay a lot of money to go to where you are, and you get to enjoy it everyday for free
