Manager biased towards a specific team member

So let me start by saying my manager is great. Compassionate, considerate, smart, keeps an open line of communication, etc. But.. I have started noticing that he is quietly biased towards one of our team member. (like nominating him to do all the good stuff, etc.) That teammate is a good guy too, btw. But i dont think its fair with everyone in the team. There isn't any politics I think, and i want to believe there might be a genuine reason behind why he is doing this. Just don't know how to deal with this (especially because i feel it is hindering my growth chances). Anyone dealt with something similar before? TC - 230k

Start interviewing. I've realized I give less of a shit once I start interviewing. Let's face it, we've all gotten ahead in our careers because at some point someone gave us a chance over other people. Maybe it's this team members chance now. You need to look out for yours. Promotions past L5/6 are less about intellect and competence and more about being in the right place at the right time.

Yes great advice. Totally get it. I just love the work and thought I will stay here for atleast 2-3 years before thinking of change.

even I have seen such things in my team. Tried calling that out infront of my manager but it went the other way. So definitely will advice not to speak that infront of your manager.

I almost was about to call it out few days ago and decided against that. You are right, maybe it would be unwise

I think this will be true wherever you go. People always have their favorites. People are not robots. Ask your boss what would need to happen for you to be his favorite person in the whole world. Then you'll get some hint on why he likes the other person.
