I am data scientist with +8 years of experince and currently working as a director of sience in mid size company. I am looking for something very new and different. Is it too crazy to accept a job as sales consultant? the main responsibility of this position is to work with prospect and do some proof of concept to assure them they can use the product and platform to solve their business problem.
Unless you dont enjoy doing real data scientist work and love to be a slave to sales people or want to be a sales person yourself I would caution against this move. Why would you want to do this ?
It seems you have a very strong and biased opinion about sales department. Please see my reason below in comments. Also please do not forget no one will be slave for anyone and second at the end of the day sale department is the one that bring money to any company.
We can’t really suggest much without knowing your preferences... Is data science something you’re tired of ? Does this new job seem like something you’re interested in?
I am not tired of DS but want to learn something at higher level and yes this position is very interesting to me.
Here is my reason: Based on my experience data science is the last step of problem solving which solve the problem however the sales and pre-sale activity is the very first step where all the business reason and challenges are discussed and the problem is defined at the very high level. There are not much math and algorithm discuss in this step while more business requirements are which is something I want to learn.
