Just got the offer. L65, One of the Azure Groups.Team seems decent. Not too much of a pay bump in terms of actual TC (~390K), but am hoping cost of living in Seattle / Redmond would result in more in hand. Hoping folks who made similar move, especially those with family / kids could share their experiences.
U will get couple of hours back in ur life. Msft is the best!
Seems like a no brainer buddy
Noted that your Long-term TC won’t be any close to 390 due to suck refresher. But I guess you’d save a lot and enjoy spending time with life/family after 4 yrs.
Can you please provide more details? Base, stock and sign on
Redmond is actually a great city. Proximity to trails, good restaurants, excellent schools, and mall (with decent stores) along with Marymoor for concerts. I used to work for Microsoft (and lived in Redmond) but live in a suburb north of Seattle now and miss Redmond.
Your post is ambiguous... I might be inclined to believe that your current TC is 390K, but I don’t think L65 would pay anywhere near that. 330K tops and that’s even stretching it. You’ll likely get 190 base 80 RSU/year and whatever the bonus is supposed to be... 20-25%? You’re likely counting signing...
my post was technically not about the salary. but since you asked, yes i did include sign-on - so more like 390K for the first 2 years atleast.
Yes you will get salary gain but weather will be bad there so if you can live with 8 months of gloomy rain then it is a place for you.
^this. Don't have any loaded weapons on hand. You will be affected by depression
Yes living in Redmond is not easy with light start fading at 3pm in the winter. I lived there and won’t return back for money gain. It is not easy to live in 8 months gloomy weather
I moved from Bay Area to Seattle metro and prefer Bay Area. I have seen Bay Area natives either hate it or like it. No in between. As I always say, it is a personal preference and what you want for your life long term. If you do leave Bay Area, you will price yourself out of market. Hard to return due to high cost of living. If you can, keep your house so you can return. One of my coworkers did this so it was easy to return. Transitioning from Bay Area work culture to MICROSOFT is not easy. This young guy in office left Bay Area, hated MICROSOFT culture and quickly returned. keep your options open. Schools are less crowded in Seattle metro area and easier to navigate with families. Money is not everything. It depends on where you will be at peace while earning a living
I am in the same boat. Will be moving to Microsoft Redmond from San Jose. How to register kids to their new school during the transition? Will be at temporary housing for a month dont think I can use that as proof of residency.
Yup.. going thru the same thinking.. DM me. We should connect..
Current TC? Go for it. Remember no state tax in WA. Take vitamin D.
While there is no state tax, it is quite costly to live here and WA is becoming like NY state with its taxes.
What taxes?
