  • If I wanted to live in Raleigh and work in Analytics/Business Intelligence - what companies should I look at?

EVERYONE in the Triangle is hiring analytics talent (probably average 15-20 recruiter contacts a week?). If I sat down and wrote it out I could probably name upwards of 75-100 companies that have been hiring analysts/data scientists recently. Pay is all over the board though. On the high end you’ve got companies like Citadel (hedge fund) Fidelity, Credit Suisse tossing fuck you money at people and at the opposite end of the spectrum you’ve got idiots like MetLife that are looking to fill Senior Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer roles with a max base salary of $95k (Masters or higher + at least 3 years of industry experience min). Genuinely felt bad for the MetLife recruiter. He sounded so defeated when I let him know what the going market rate is.

Didn't know Citadel opened up at Raleigh. When you say FU money, how big are you talking about? Do they beat median senior swe salaries for G/F/A?

      Red Hat and SAS.

Pendo does have some great people too. Red Hat is probably most comparable to Amazon benefits and pay if you negotiate well. SAS snaps up a lot of folks from the NC State Masters in Analytics program under Dr. Rappa.

Pendo does indeed have some great people and certainly funding, but their two hiring gatekeepers are hyper-focused on younger, less expensive talent, with diversity as a big driver. Red Hat is similarly set up, only on a larger scale.

The problem with Citrix and Cisco are the layoffs that occur when revenues are somewhat flat; shareholders being served over corporate culture and customers.

The folks I know at Citadel are making high 100's into 200's but the hours sound brutal. Sounds more like F Me money.

I am relocating to Raleigh from NYC (Currently living in Jersey City). Can someone give me an idea about the expenses for a family of 4. 2 Adults and 2 kids under age of 5. What's the best places to live if my office is in RTP area. Also what would be the best places to rent? FYI, I am an Indian and would prefer a mixed neighborhood around. Also what would be the best place to buy an apartment where I can get best education for my kids as well as a good neighborhood which is safe and children can play out and mingle with other kids. Thanks in advance

Triangle area, RTP has some of the best schools and universities. Great place for growing kids and vibrant Indian community with many cultural activities going on throughout the year. Coming from NYC, People specially indians like this place v much. If you plan to rent, you can easily find a 3 bedroom townhome under 1800 dollar a month while other expenses are low. Everyone commutes to office by car, so that may be a change for you

@10b6n4l Yea. They opened an analytics shop in one of the new towers at North Hills. For some of the senior level positions I’ve been quoted $300-400k base + healthy bonus structure (Director/VP titles - take those with a grain of salt. Analytic team hierarchies tend to be a mess and titles often don’t mean much. I’m still a bit junior to compete for those gigs yet but it’s nice to at get considered at this point). Also Spoke to Citadel not too long ago about an entry level data engineering role and they didn’t even bat an eye when I tossed out a range of $170-200k to test the waters. Had zero interest in working for them and thought that would scare them away but they seemed very comfortable at that level.

Worth pointing out/taking into consideration that salaries in the area as a whole tend to lag begin NYC and the Valley as our cost of living is significantly lower.
