I'm almost on the verge of accepting a Tier 2 offer with the intention to renege if I get Tier 1. I managed to push the start date to Feb, next year, so I still have time. Assuming if I renege Tier 2, has there been cases where the company you regened retaliated against you? If they find out who you finally accepted, Tier 2 HR can call up your Tier 1 HR and bad mouth you causing Tier 1 to rescind the offer. Also the Tier 2 hiring manager or employees might do the same. Bigger question is can Tier 2 find out if you work for someone else? When you start job and you fill up I9, does that go through some central database where HR can see who you submitted job paperwork with? What's the best way to deal with a vindictive Tier 2? Maybe start at Tier 1 for a week before reneging so that they can't screw with you?
It’s at will employment so tier 2 can’t legally do shit. They could call a recruiter contact at tier 1 I guess. Here’s what I did: when the recruiter from tier 1 (LinkedIn) called me to make an offer, I told her I already accepted a tier 2 (Apple) offer and hope it’s ok if I renege on it coz I love and believe in the mission of tier 1. Recruiter was like we don’t generally condone it, but they really want me, so yes. Trust me, tier 1 recruiter will always say this since they need to hit their targets so if you’re someone they make an offer to, this is literally the least they will do to get you!
don’t accept the offer....
I can't. Current work is toxic to the point I will lose my sanity if I don't exit ASAP. Economy could crash next month and hiring could freeze, if that happens and I don't move out from my work, I will lose it. Like literally lose it.
No to all the questions. Just dont tell tier 2 about tier 1
