Should I move from Apple to Facebook for 20% bump in TC?

My WLB is pretty good and the team/manager is chill at Apple. Should I move to Facebook for 20% bump in TC given that FB manages out lot of slackers like me? TC:300K

If you want to continue your life as is, then no. 60k is not worth it. But if you're fine with the high load and prefer to explore a different company, sure do it

Iโ€™d consider heavily if I were younger but Iโ€™d still stick with Apple even then. I think in the Bay Area, itโ€™s hard to be aware of having a decent life outside of work and career sometimes. As I look back, I wish that Iโ€™d had spent more time with friends and family than at work sometimes. On a great team with really good wlb now, but your youth is when you should be having the most fun

Stay with Apple.

Everyone I know at Apple who left to work for Zuck boomeranged in under two years. You have no idea how good the WLB in Apple SWE is. If you are comfortable with your life, I would highly suggest not jumping (even for 2x TC).

The thing is though.. boomeranging twice usually entails two good TC bumps. As long as you leave on good terms it might be worth seeing how green the grass is on the other side. Youโ€™ll get a more diverse set of skills by learning two different technology stacks ...

Pretty sure they boomeranged because they couldnโ€™t tolerate the stress at FB ๐Ÿ˜‚

If you want to grow and double your comp then FB. If youโ€™re happy with what you got stick with Apple.

Facebook easzss Sep 18, 2019

key is if you want to grow since you won't be working on cross-company initiatives at apple

Facebook N00bbie Sep 18, 2019

Comparing Facebook with Apple for a SDE in terms of growth/TC is so senseless and shit ๐Ÿ˜‚. You better be at Apple if you are satisfied with your current work and TC and want to chill.

@Facebook: does Facebook follow move up or move out system?

Facebook N00bbie Sep 18, 2019

Depends on the individual. If you are good at your work, you move up so quickly or you slowly move out.

20% after taxes is a pittance. Remember...AFTER taxes! Not worth the added stress of a company that is known to slog it's people with work.
