Anyone been there? 1) Signed official offer from X 2) Received offer from Y, which is better 3) Declined X and moved on with company Y What are the legal and reputation risks of such move?
Nothing happens. You could even go to a company one day or two and quit and nothing happens
Depends on how you explain company X on why you think the role at Y is a good fit. Any other dimension you run this conversation, likely to turn sour
Jail time. Be ready.
Nothing. I did exactly that and I still get reached out by recruiters of that company.
Recruiter, HM and team waiting for you. Logical, legal ground no issues but ethically it's incorrect. You can say to X : current company given me counter offer and promotion.
Every company is fighting to hire candidates, so I'm sure Company X understands, though they aren't happy at the moment. With the speed at which things move, it'll probably be forgotten in a few months, esp when that recruiter moves on to the next gig
don’t enter company X parking lot for any reason. you will get your tires slashed and possibly beat up as well. they were counting on you and will now likely fail.
Apologize and move on. No one gives a shit, neither should you.
No legal risks. Reputation risk of being blacklisted from working at X.
