From looking at levels.fy1 it appears that TC is higher at Amazon, especially for SDE 2-3. Is this correct? Trying to figure out where I’ll end up with higher TC after 5-6 years. Thanks.
Amazon might be the worst FANG but it’s still FANG :/
Why is Amazon the worst FAANG?
Slightly lower comp compared to Google and Facebook and less perks due to standardizing them for all employees since the workforce is vastly blue collar. Although stock appreciation in the last five years made everyone L6+ millionaires.
Amazon > msft if you are staying 5 years. But still worse than staying 2.5 at msft and jumping to G/FB
Im only saying you would do better at msft right now because im convinced amzn stock is insanely overvalued while i think msft valuation is more reasonable.
LOL
If you were to start tomorrow? You’d probably do better at Microsoft. Your WLB will be way better.
It will be skewed toward being higher at Amazon because Amazon's stock has increased 5-6x in the past few years and a lot of the bonus comp structure revolves around a large amount of RSUs that start in your 3rd year
How does stock work when you get promoted to SDE 2?
It matters more how much you get given at your hire date (because that determines how much RSUs you're getting that will increase as stock goes up). So if you start at SDE 2/3, it will be better than starting at SDE 1/2 and getting promoted a level because a lot of stock gains will have passed by the time you get promoted. However assuming to get the same level of comp as the people who reported at levels.fyi shouldn't hold true now because AMZN won't grow 5-6x again in a couple years. At most it might grow 2x in a few years in an incredibly optimistic scenario. Only 3 companies in history have hit a trillion dollars market cap, it's not like Amazon will hit 2 trillion that easily.
