I moved from Operations to HR as they wanted me to coordinate the language learning and certification that we have for employees. Wondering what this kind of job pays in the big US tech centers. I'm at 20 YOE and have previously been in marketing and operations. Same company but I didn't join Rakuten out of school; they acquired the company I actually joined. With no job changes I'm pretty out of the loop on TC anywhere except my own department - where numbers are pretty low. If you had this career history would you be looking to go back to operations if you moved?
Lots of different jobs in HR from low skilled work to highly strategic work. Top business partners make $250k whereas typical recruiters make $100k
I'd classify my job as being on the low-skilled side; you don't need a high IQ; you need to be able to juggle dozens of things in your mind at the same time and be able to jump from deep concentration in one thing to something totally different on a dime. I struggle with it but my multitasking workmates have no problem. None of us earn anywhere near 100k.
I made 65 my first year out of college then made 75 the following year. Then I was promoted to about 92. I am expecting 110 in 2020 w/ a bit over 3 YOE. At 25 YOE I'd be expecting at least 250k. HR doesnt make more than tech, but quarter mil isnt too bad.
Wow! Let me repeat myself: wow! That is amazing! When I created this topic I was envisioning numbers like your fresh-grad 65k. Then you got that gigantic raise in only your second year? At infamously-stingy Amazon? With more giant raises to follow? Are you hiring? :) Those numbers must be in the Bay Area, right? I work for the Japanese equivalent of Amazon and in Tokyo we pay a fraction of what you earn. My HR team members make, in USD, 30-45 per year with managers in the 60s and department heads past 70. With the yen having crashed since 2012, Tokyo isn't expensive compared to US cities anymore.
Nah I started in Seattle and got promoted so now I work in TX. The 110 is factoring a second promotion which should be confirmed hopefully in 3 weeks. If not then I'll remain at about 92k.
Probably not well
