They're hitting me up for a job; I don't want to waste my time or theirs. Feedback anyone?
If the location is in TX then take it. They have lot of growth potential
Ex coworker who joined really likes it. Their data science team is legit
Are you just saying that because you sold us your product 🤔
They reached out to me for a leadership role, but everyone I met in management - at manager, director and VP level -- they were all below par ( everyone seemed 2 levels above where they should have been, tbh) . Both the manager and director could not answer basic questions I had about their choice of stack ( not sure they ever wrote any code or were involved in architecture discussion at capitalone) hence I bailed.
Yikes. Thanks.
It depends where you are right now too, could be a level up. I would be highly skeptical though.
What's the tech stack like? If I see another python or node, I'm going to eat my gun.
Teams generally get to pick their own tools and languages
It depends. Node an Python are niches. Java is by far the most common.
It does require patience as there are regulations for things in production like all banks but you can get a lot of visibility (promotions) pushing yourself and others to deliver fast.
I'm painfully familiar with all of the above. I suppose it beats being unemployed.
I actually think capital one is a great choice. I interviewed and got an offer and almost took it. They have a great culture, much more tech-like than other banks, and pay well. Combine that with low Texas cost of living and you're sitting pretty
You should do the interview, just so when you neither the offer, you can say, what's in YOUR wallet?
🤣
The answer is: a Capital One corp card
They sell the tech part very well. What's in your wallet? A lot of bloatware and we are in f'ing bank. On the positive, lots of smart people and lots of time to learn new tech even though you will probably never use it. Really good benefits but not the salary.
What have you got to lose by having a conversation with the hiring manager? Very fast paced environment. As others have stated very intense focus on people leaders lately - it has improved considerably.
They hit up everbody with a few years of experience at a reputable company. My impression was it's probably your standard enterprise dev environment, reasonable but not overly generous packages.
