Why does Airbnb mask company names like Google and Facebook on traveler profiles?

If I say I work at Google or Facebook, Airbnb hides the company name on my traveler profile. "Netflix" and "Instagram" are fine. What's the deal?

So you're saying it masks the word "Google" and "Facebook" site wide?

Because itโ€™s trying to prevent people from messaging each other and saying โ€œfind me on Facebookโ€ or โ€œGoogle me at ...โ€; this is to prevent hosts and guests from taking transactions offline and skirting our booking platform. That said, itโ€™s overly aggressive and produces false positives, which accounts for the behavior youโ€™re seeing. I would consider it a bug.
