Is working at Tesla fun? Do they compensate well for the work required in each role? I just applied today because I love the company. I wanted to get an idea for other people’s experiences working there.
It sucks. Ex Tesla here. Compensation and WLB sucks a big time. The process is not at all organized. You’ll realize that in first 5 months.
Been at Tesla for almost 4 years and I’ve loved it for the most part. Amazing growth potential and learning opportunities that you may not find elsewhere. Though pay is likely not as high as other top tier companies like FAANG etc. though it is dependent on department / position and performance. WLB also will depend on department and desire to grow. Groups such as Autopilot, Special Projects, and Production Engineering (Process, Mfg., Controls, Quality) can sometimes be required to support more than 8hrs per day. Though, once you’re capable and confident within your position you can find yourself doing 9-5 pretty easily.
I have been here 4 years and loved it. Again WLB except in some teams (mentioned above) is not bad if you know what you are doing. Pay can be good if you are a top performer. The challenges and working with highly motivated people (self selection) is probably what is the best part.
7 yrs at Tesla. agree with the above 2 posters comments.
How is the interview difficulty for Tesla internal IT apps team ?
Same. It’s a little dysfunctional but I love it. But I fall into the highly motivated, workaholic, need for speed category. Pay is fine if you’re a top performer, but you need to show up and grind to prove yourself. Self filtering happens quickly, and those who stay tend to love it.
Current Tesla. 60+ hrs/week, 1/2 - 2/3rd the TC of other Bay Area hardware companies. Pro is that you get to learn a lot fast
Ex-Tesla here, I found it absolutely ridiculous. A car company pretending to be a startup when it comes to spending and “perks” like parking, but not when it comes to camaraderie and access to learning outside your lane. Essentially, they expect you to work 1.5x but they’ll pay only 0.75x, culture is extremely exhausting and toxic, and a ton of people are visibly depressed which makes for one hell of an atmosphere. Oh and you’ll have to chase a free restroom stall every day after lunch if you work at Deer Creek.
Current Tesla. Another Pro is that you can grow really fast if you’re good and you put in the time. Most teams are on the understaffed side, so you can quickly prove your worth, become a critical piece to the business (for better or worse), and get promoted quickly if you take advantage of the opportunities. WLB is an issue for everyone, but if you’re focused on growth, then perhaps you’re more okay with it as long as you get something out of it.
No - ex Tesla
