Anyone at Airbnb know about a requirement for recruiters/hiring managers to have interviewed at least one “diverse” person for a role before they can make an offer to a “non diverse” person? Not sure if this is still active, but a recruiter told me that this was the policy in early 2020. Trying to get confirmation and more info. Thanks.
Rooney rule is super common nowadays
I did my SWE interview with Airbnb late 2019 and no idea wtf you are talking about
Do they have to do the same/opposite if they were to give offer for a "diverse" person?
I’ve never heard of it but I do feel that there are companies out there that interview people of color with no intentions of hiring them - just to check off a box in their phony diversity program/be able to say that they considered a diverse pool of candidates (Amazon). It’s all lip service at the expense of people’s time and hope.
What you’re describing is called a diverse slate and common practice across the industry: https://blog.ongig.com/diversity-and-inclusion/diverse-slate-hiring/ There isn’t a hard rule that every role is filled this way at Airbnb, but it may be used on occasion depending on the recruiter and hiring manager.
What's a non diverse person?
A Republican
Asian or White man (including Arabs)
