I wonder why there is not more being said about the really poor work life balance at Fb? People seem to keep complaining about amazon but I find it worse here at Fb? Yes the work is great but I fee like I am always working and the work never ends.. people even avoid taking too much PTO on my team and there is little time to socialize or make friends - it's just constantly go go go.. wonder if I am the only one who feels this way? I feel like a resource to be utilized to the maximum.
too busy to complain
yeah work life balance is pretty terrible here. looking to potential make a move soon. burning out.
Hmmmm, is this in all sites and all levels? And why doesn't this show up on glassdoor? Is it recent? Asking cuz I just did an on-site at fb and was looking to leave Amazon mainly to improve my work life balance... Tied at Amazon
Wrong choice then. Facebook may not be as rough as Amazon but the competition will be more fierce I guess because of the talent level. Come to Microsoft. You may beg for more work and I am not kidding. I saw ex Amazonians feeling nervous or terrified that they are managed out because they thought they were not working enough at MSFT but they were working harder than others.
Agreed. Microsoft has great work life balance.
That's the main reason I don't choose Facebook.
Why is it like this at facebook? Okrs? Poor planning? Rapid change in project scope or direction?
Despite Uber and FB has similar engineering headcounts, Fb cranks code much faster than Uber. Their momentum is very high. From deep learning to building their own servers, virtual reality to autonomous airplanes, their problem space is vast. Zuck executes well. It's not a place for slackers but you get ample of warnings and corrective action.
That's a lie. FB does not crank code faster than Uber. Dude why don't u to work there?
I agree it's poor planning and no clear direction
yes because you're aware of the planning and direction?
What I hear most often is that people are motivated to work hard - no one is pushing them - but for a person with a family it's hard to keep up..
Why is that? Peer pressure? They don't do stack ranking, so PIP shouldn't be a concern.
Just don't fall behind of others. If it's visible by your team, you'll get PIPed out. They give warnings way ahead. FB has no surprises policy. Uber PIPs are confusing because they come out of blue seems very random or some managers settling scores.
You own your own work life integration, fb is amazing for me. Make a change, no one cares about how many hours you work they care about the output.
I work at Facebook now. I work a lot less than I did at Microsoft (now I work ~35 hours a week instead of ~40). Definitely more chill at Facebook than three of four teams I worked on at Microsoft (exception: Office).
