4 year cliff during recession for machine learning roles

I spent two years as a swe at microsoft and then for my third year I became machine learning scientist at microsoft. i got to my new team in spring and now my new manager tried to sell below average rewards as average rewards. but I was not tricked because this is not my first year at microsoft and I know how rewards work. I dont think my manager values me as highly as his other hires and it is uphill battle to get promotions etc. my 4 year cliff is fall 2023. I've been trying to switch companies all during the pandemic but did not land good machine learning role. with the recession during 2023, should I put my emphasis on external move, internal move, or fighting for better rewards at current spot? #tech #faang #google #apple #netflix #microsoft #machinelearningengineer #machinelearning
