40% paycut - FAANG vs top finance?
Hi folks Got a couple offers from top tech firms + prop shops. All prop shops can do between 30-40% more than FAANG apparently in London. Negotiation will not make up the gap as far as I can tell. I see a lot more future in FAANG, 5 years down the line, to be honest but it's hard to overlook the difference and engineering-wise, the teams I interviewed with in finance were as smart as the teams in tech. What can we do here :( TC: 130 yoe: 8

TC is great but it's ultimately worthless if I don't get to have a life outside work, and also I want to optimize about learning at work as much as possible.
U did not mention about WLB requirements. In that case we can’t tell u unless u give us 2 specific names.
London FB, Coinbase, TikTok, Twitter and probably more can give you £200k as E5 if you negotiate
Don't forget prop shops WLB can be terrible - both more hours, and actual work you can be treated pretty terribly. It's entirely possible your $/hr is lower even if your pay is 40% higher. I'm not sure I'd want to make that trade. One of my favorite quotes: "Working at Citadel is like having two jobs - both of them at Amazon!"
Hey, would you mind sharing what prop shops you got offers from and what they were? Currently got offers from certain HFTs and interviewing with other HFTs, so it would really be helpful.

Too small of an industry in London I'm afraid and I haven't signed either offer yet, but think of any FAANG company and equal level prop-shops (2s, citadel, JS, HRT, etc...). Offers are basically 40% less in FAANG vs low to mid 200s (GBP) in prop shops.
Projected bonus and real bonus can be very different. Have you included projected bonus in the TCs
