Datadog Re-Interview process

Hello folks from Datadog ! So I went through a recruitment process last December for a generalist senior software Engineer position in datadog (paris office) and completed all rounds besides team matching as the feedback for rejection was that I wasn't "senior" enough in the coding rounds (both ones in the on-sites not the screening round). System design/manager rounds were good and they felt great fit even though they weren't sure about leveling me as a senior because I lack distributed systems exp(but they explained that down leveling to mid was possible and would lead to fast track promotion if all went good in first year which I was 100% fine with). Anyway, the recruiter (who was impressively supportive and helped me so much) pushed for me so I can get another round of coding interviews 3 months later (in March) for senior level which I failed miserably (not an excuse but for context my 7months son was scheduled for surgery a week after and outcome was unknown). My big mistake was to accept and not push it later in the following year (felt that I could at least nail one of them). Anyway, fast forward today (end of August 2023) I saw a lot of new openings so I dropped an email to the recruiter (and got not response after a few days) and applied through the job website and got a rejection less than 24h later. Am I screwed to ever interview to datadog again ? Or should I maybe wait for 12 months after my last interview to even apply again ? It's basically my target company to join for a lot of reasons so I would be devastated if It's not possible to interview again in the future 😢 #datadog #hiring

Curious, what are your reasons to join Datadog? To answer your question, it should be fine to get another interview. At the most they might have an expiration date until when you can’t interview

Well, of the obvious reasons is that in where I'm located very few companies (Big tech, steing startups etc..) like Datadog are recruiting (FAANG recruiting is probably over in France for years given that layoffs couldn't even be executed due to the strong employment laws). Besides that, I felt that they worked on interesting topics (that I actually want to get into like distributed systems @ scale) and had a lot of ownership/freedom to move around. They also seemed like a chilled company all around. They also pay very well (locally).

They rejected me for using recursion instead of iteration . Apparently it's a sign that I write confusing non performannt code. Interviewer didn't bring this up during interview and agreed that my solution is good. But wrote that shit in the feedback and failed me.

You should be good to re-interview after a minimum of 6 months. 1 year is better.

Gotcha thank you mate !!

There is no fast track promotion to anything except mid level

Interesting to hear ! Recruiter never got back to me anyway so it's probably a done deal.
