I just did an AA (As Approprate) interview with a senior manager as the last interview after passing the 4 technical interviews. But it was a bit weird. The guy only asked me half a question about coding, asked me to talk about the solution first. When I did, and was starting to write the code he stopped me saying no need, and then kept talking about his team and all the awesome things they build and that was it. Not sure he really liked me or hated me lol. Is it typical to fail AA interviews? TC: 170K YOE: 7
You might have nailed it.
AA wanted to just get a feel for what its like to talk tech w you. You probably already got a bunch of coding questions that showed your skill already so no need for a repeat. Agree w kcSI44, probably a good sign
Same happened to me but my AA was the first one in the loop. After that I did all the 3 and got result in 2 working days.
And the result was..?
Positive
Congrats! 🎉 You probably did really well. I went through something similar in an internal loop when I was still there. It can’t be a bad sign if a hiring manager is trying hard to “sell” the opportunity to you.
I got an offer 😁
Can't say if it's typical to fail AA interviews, but if you got that far, you can feel confident that every interviewer before that point felt that you would make a good addition to the team. The interviewers talk through their impressions with each other after each interview, so getting an AA interview means that they all felt good about your technical skills and all felt that you would be good to work with. So yeah, an AA interview is just for the final decision maker to see if they agree you would be a good fit for the team, he probably didn't feel that there was any point in you showing him your coding chops again.
Recently had an interview with Microsoft, just 4 rounds including Hiring manager. No AA interview was scheduled or mentioned anywhere. But no AA interview and its been a week havent heard anything. On following up with the recruiter, was told the initial feedback was positive, but the team hasn’t made a final decision which may take a week or two . I realize my chances are low, but having no news on a AA interview so far, is it a confirmation of rejection?
Any updates on this?
What is an AA?
As Appropriate. It seems to be the typical final round.
