As individual contributors AWS has a bad rep. I know a lot of Pre sales SAs that say AWS is a sweatshop or offers no WLB. Does anyone have any insight to what leadership is like? If you are a line manager to SAs is WLB an issue? Any Info helps!
Not sure who you heard from. I deal with SAs and they are not overworked at all. There is a Specialist request mechanism called specreq and the SAs have the option of punting it if they have enough engagements already. This is for WWSO specialist SAs. Generalist SAs tied to a segment may have more work as they may be in charge of a large number of customer accounts and typically are expected to take certifications across a number of service product areas. But even that workload is manageable only.
Amazon knowingly or unknowingly employs Yerkes-Dodson theory. TLDR; Some level of anxiety can make you more productive. For more: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerkes%E2%80%93Dodson_law My company does that too and it’s not healthy.
I’m an architect at AWS and I have an amazing WLB. YMMV
Good to know. Nice to hear that. I have so much bad feedback nice to hear a positive one. Thank you.
Of course. I actually left AWS for a couple months and boomeranged back, to show how much I love it here.
