I was in focus for sometime now and although I have delivered the project while I was in focus, my manager cites some Leadership principle and tells me that I have to undergo pip or take severance. How can LPs be objectively used to assess and how can they be the deciding factor. I feel like this is a subjective decision. He cites that the reason for putting me in focus is because I delivered a task late 4 months into my joining and he tells me that 5 months later. Although I delivered it within a sprint. Well why wasn't I told about it earlier. I'm on a visa and have been at Amazon almost 20 months. Is it worth undergoing PIP? Any referrals would be greatly appreciated.
It's sad. But honestly, try to get out of there. It's not worth the mental tension. Concentrate on getting another job in this market.
File an HR complaint. Note that this only works if you're persistent. If you'll accept the first pushback from HR, it won't work.
What is the best case scenario here?
You'll be allowed to switch teams. Or if it goes to an Employee Relations investigation, your PIP will pause for the duration of their investigation. Note that you have to avoid putting them in the corner. E.g., be open to switching teams yourself, and be okay with manager receiving zero repercussions for their wrongdoing.
The market is bad right now for job hunt š crazy loaded candidate pool, no calls, ghosting recruiters, cancelling interviews after scheduling, not getting an offer because someone else has just accepted the same offer.
I have an offer which is like a 20% pay cut. Should I take it and then think about landing a better opportunity
Take the severance and new offer.
It's day one
They are citing reason for delivering a project from 16 months ago ?
That's amazon for you. I feel that bezos made up LPs only to get a reason to gaslight employees
If you donāt have visa pressure, take the severance. Take vacation and grind leetcode meanwhile. Much easier than having to worry about your job at the same time. The market will bounce back in 6-12 months.
I am on a visa, what about FMLA?
You can still take FMLA even if you fail Pivot. Before losing Appeal.
DM for asml
Average tenure is 1 year, you already exceeded that, Amazon donāt want you here that long
You already have an offer. Just take the severance and join the new job. Also make a case against your manager with Hr before leaving so he didn't screw someone else. Good luck
