Precursor info: in the UK it is common to have a 3 month notice period upon resigning. It’s at the employers will if they wish to hold you to the 3 months notice. They could either reduce the notice period, pay you for 3 months but request you don’t work/remove system privileges (known as Garden Leave) or just make you work the entire notice period. I’m about to accept an offer with ByteDance/TikTok in a London for a non eng role. But I also don’t want to lose my FB bonus for H2 2020 as I’m on track for a GE rating/200% multiplier. At Facebook UK, you have to be employed with the company as of April 1st in order to get the bonus. Tik Tok are happy for my start date to be May 1st. Is it possible for me to sign the contract with Tik Tok but not hand in my resignation with FB until April 2nd? I’m very confident FB will reduce my notice period to 1 month and put me on paid leave for that month too. This happened with 2 employees in my org who recently left too. What am I missing / any HR insights would be great! Yoe: 10 TC FB: £162k TC offer from Tik Tok: £230k (Both non eng roles)
What happens if you just give them 1 month notice?
Tc breakup? And what's the role? This is an amazing Tc by London standards. Congrats!
Can bytedance give you that bonus? it makes the move easy
Tried negotiating it in, being non eng they really don’t negotiate. We’re not in high demand!
Don't know about UK, but this is what happens in US. I would accept the offer now with joining date of May 1. And resign on April 2nd.
Is £162k base?
I wish, no it’s total TC (base + bonus + stock vesting for the year)
Does TT London, provide a sign on bonus or relocation package ?
It could be risky. I’m in London too and it’s a really small industry. So the issue is that you could have TikTok people knowing you’re arriving and talking about it openly, a lot of people came from Facebook and Facebook could then find out before you resign. What is the amount that you’ll lose from FB if you resign now?
Just to add, would Bytedance be a direct competitor to FB? If so, would they put you on gardening leave straight away? If they do, you could negotiate for them to pay your gardening leave up and leave straight away. Worth checking if there’s precedence of leavers from FB to Bytedance.
@yKFH16 Sorry for bumping the thread but how did the salary negotiation go? Did you ask them to present a TC offer, did they ask you to come up with a range, or did you state your current TC beforehand? Very interested to understand how you managed to land on a TC increase from 162k to 230k and how that is divided across RSUs, bonus, base pay.
+1 on similar question but companies are in US
Most US top companies use at will employment. You can go anytime you want. But giving 2 weeks notice is common.
Yea USA is easy to leave. You shouldn’t have this issue in the USA
