Airbnb culture

How do you like working there? Is there still a feeling of positive momentum? Do teams work well together or does management like to maintain fiefdoms?

Amazon Pinkpanthe Dec 3, 2017

It's good for vacations but I don't know what it's like to work there

Airbnb NotUbery Dec 3, 2017

It’s the best that I’ve seen by far. It’s no longer a small company (maybe 700 eng now?) but the culture is still solid. We have two non technical interviewers in the loop that check the culture fit/values. Lots of people come from Goog/FB/etc but almost no one goes the other direction (usually people go to tiny startups when they leave). So that gives you a good indication.

The culture fit interviews are the worst part of Airbnb. Optimizing for people who can spit bullshit and who will drink the kool-aid

Airbnb NotUbery Dec 3, 2017

In practice it’s just a check that you’re a reasonably nice person. The real weeding out is on the tech side

Airbnb Hdjwp Dec 4, 2017

It has its downsides like any company but compared to others I've worked at its great overall.

Airbnb Hdjwp Dec 4, 2017

The teams that I've interacted with have worked well together. In my experience there are great front line managers, but upper management could be better.

I have a few friends there. Most say it’s really toxic.

Airbnb ilovebelos Dec 5, 2017

I love it. I’ve had great teams and managers

Airbnb Thygvcb Dec 5, 2017

Don’t listen to the kool-aid drinkers. It’s a shitshow

Yelp 🌊tsunami Dec 6, 2017

Is there a standard 90 day exercise window if you leave or longer?

Airbnb ilovebelos Dec 6, 2017

You get RSUs which have no exercise window. That’s standard at bigger companies

Yelp 🛸cadet Dec 6, 2017

Gotcha

Airbnb Leavemebe Jan 13, 2018

It’s not great, going south in my opinion. They’re taking more of a corporate approach and cutting perks, seems like everyone has a negative vibe in the office, at least in Portland.
