5yoe L4 here and Google is my third job so far. In my previous jobs, I never gave a shit about being promoted because my goal is to found my own company and I have spent that time on it while others spend on promotions and on hobbies Tried a few ideas and failed. I am currently trying another idea right now. Recently I encountered a couple who only focused on climbing the corporate ladder and are E6s at Meta. There were only a couple years older and had net worth of 2M+. Their TCs are probably around 700k+ but I can only imagine. Anyways, it made me think, does what I am doing actually make sense? My networth is around 200k (I blew up a hundred grand for various ventures before including hardware tech) What are your thoughts? #google #meta #microsoft #apple #amazon #netflix

Why do families communicate so poorly
Same boat, don’t worry about it too much.
You were an idiot not caring about promotions. Only promotions matter in life.
Net worth of others may seem high but you don’t know what their expenses look like either so don’t compare. Assuming that there are more reasons than $$ for you to want to create something of your own, I think you are doing the right thing. Don’t ever leave your dreams unfulfilled - you don’t want to be that guy wondering “what if” down the road
100% agreed. Bezos’ regret minimization framework is the best approach one could take in life IMHO.
You are absolutely doing the right thing.
How do you “encounter a couple” and come to know their Levels, TC, and Networth in short time?
Why would they get a low interest home loan and pay it off in a few years? Your story isn’t adding up.
I am not here to make up a story or check validity of the scenario. Do you never go to holiday parties? Koreans gather via connections and share their net worth/house/companies over drinks. I actually got to know quite a few people this way
Who tf cares?? Do what you think is right for yourself 2 million or 200k you can afford the same sandwich, dinners, but you cant buy life and happiness. Live your own life and find meaning in it, this no one can take from you or buy
Dude, you clearly never had neither 200k nor 2 million. The sandwich on 2 million/year is absolutely much better than on 200k/year. It’s simply not even comparable, how much better. Even after CA 50% tax.
No? I have > 2MM and the sandwich is the same. In fact it tastes worse, I gotta eat healthier so I'll have time to enjoy my wealth later. We are talking about actual sandwiches right? Other than having more $ though, I'm in the same boat as OP. Don't give a flying fuck about promo, and gonna quit soon to focus on founding.
Would your interests change if your networth was halved or doubled today?
Lol in the exactly the same boat
