Current compensation Bay Area 240 K. Offer from AMZN Seattle 250k with 280 RSU. Anyone think it's worth moving ? Experience 12 years role on system architecture. thanks
* amazon and Microsoft
Wait, I thought Amazon in Seattle had a 165k Cap on Base?
yes 250k including sign on and salary first 2 yeard
That is a pretty important difference, don't confuse the two.
That's a big move, but I personally love Seattle (it's a shitty time of the year though). do you guys get RSU's at Broadcom? 280k RSU? or 280 shares?
240 K includes RSU @ BRCM that is 280 RSU vested 4 years
I'd definitely take it. 250k in Seattle will go a long way and Amazon has massive upside. Broadcom not so much.
Don't forget though, Amazon stocks vest super back heavy. 5% first year, 15% second, and 20% each 6 months after. My friends are starting to get their 5th year package on their 4th year, but they usually make less than what they made their 4th year
Also they will probably throw signing bonus and relo. They all have clawbacks. (yes, even relo.)
Seattle is pretty awesome these days. My friends at Amazon work hard, but they are generally excited about where things are headed. I'd expect a busier work day. If you are looking for work life balance, it'll be different than Broadcom. No doubt.
Seattle is horrible IMO. Very depressing weather, hoping to find another Bay Area job myself.
It looks like a very promising offer. Congratulations
BRCM stock is not doing bad either. 20% up this year so far. Your RSU pipe will flushed once you leave. But financially, your amazon offer is better since you don't pay state income tax and Seattle is cheaper than Bay Area.
Congratulations! What role, how many years experience? What's the base, 1st year, 2nd year bonus breakdown.?
Role is level 6 hw base is low in 140 100k sign on plus 20 RSU first year second year approximately same total but slightly more stock vested
Here is how Amazon salary works: Yr 1: Base + Sign-on yr 1 + 5% RSUs Yr 2: Base + Sign-on yr 2 + 15% RSUs After year 2, 20% RSUs vest every 6 months. No Sign-on bonus after year 2.
I think the $250k is worth much more than $240k in bay area because of no state income taxes. but again Seattle has very companies apart from Amazon and Seattle. that's something that you may want to think about. house prices are not as bad as bay area but it's not that cheap too.
