I was recently offered by Amazon Ad (NYC) as a Front End Engineer at L4 with TC of 187k, and by Goldman Sachs (NYC) as SDE at associate level with TC of 235k. Which one should I go for? I know Goldman is not a tech company, and maybe looked down by Tech companies like Amazon. But I certainly did not expect Goldman offered way more than what Amazon could offer for me. YOE: 3, current TC: 135k
Where is Amazon offering you?
Amazon advertisement division in NYC.
What division in Goldman sachs?
Also make sure that annual bonus doesn't have one time sign on bonus included.
PWM, I don't think they even offer me any sign on TBH. Recruiter mentioned there will be only base + annual bonus for this role.
No thats how they say the offer. Confirm with them what the bonus range will be from year two.
Thanks, just confirmed that bonus is for year 2020, but the base is for now. So the base may raise next year after Feb, according to him. So, back to my question, do you prefer Goldman in my case?
Yes, though it depends on team but the wlb is better in Goldman than Amazon. Goldman is more recession proof than Amazon as well.
TC is about the same imo since with 3 YoE, you'll get to L5 relatively fast. Amazon has a good chance of beating Goldman then. Are you interested in front end?
Thanks, I chatted with the PM and he told me it took at least 1 year to be considered for promotion, which Goldman already gave. I really like Front End thing, but I also hope to develop my full-stack skills. BTW, do you have any idea what the TC of FEE II (L5) looks like in Amazon? Will it be lower than SDE II?
I don't know TC for FEE. I work in AWS - FE doesn't really exist here 😅
What was the interview like at GS?
What was the interview process like for Amazon ? What did they ask ?
