I got a verbal offer for a L4 after interviewing for a L5. I have 4 years of experience, so it was a little bit of a shock to hear. I know my skillset is at the L5 level, but maybe I was not able to demonstrate that during the interview because it's an interview. Could you go into Amazon and be promoted if you really are at the wrong level? What is that timeframe? #amazon #aws #amazonaws
You could get from L4 to L5 in a year if you are good, with L5 level project and supporting manager. L4 to L5 is pretty easy
+1 on this; Am SDM and promoting someone with less than a year experience L4 to L5. Don’t let a level define you and the amount you can contribute. Try to do better than those of at the level you want to be at. Get a sense if you have good manager support as soon as possible. Bail on then ASAP if they believe in the “must have 2 years to be considered” bullshit
Same boat, Amazon low-ball me with sde1(L4) saying I didn't meet the bar for leadership principals despite good feedback for technical parts, they asked me to try again for sde2(L5) in 6 months. I'd say it's not worth it to be downleveled unless it's Google.
Why move from Twitter to Amazon ?
Everyone has their stories, but mine is to see what they can offer me
I would say a year. Let's say one - two months - to get your properly ramped up. After that you will take an SDE1 project/tasks and outperform. After that talk with the SDM, and get yourself SDE2 level projects.
It's probably easier to interview again for sde2.
did your recruiter ever end up calling you back with the TC? if yes, how long after the verbal offer did you get the written offer?
Yes. Verbal to written was 2 days.
I also interviewed for l5 but got downlevelled to L4. Contemplating whether to move or not? I dont like my current work. Dont see much growth in my current work.
I turned down the offer. I don’t know what your TC is, but it just did not make sense for me to take a L4 offer.
I had 4 yoe when I joined and got L4 instead of L5. It took me 1.5 years to get promoted and then I was still under 200k in TC.
I started it.. i thought after promotion you get 30% increase in salary
I got 10% base increase for promotion and no stocks lol
This is common...most folks come in a little lower than they were expecting. I have seen VPs come in as an L7. Typically L4s are new leaders or college grads. L5 will depend on how many folks you managed and can you demonstrate this in your responses. To be honest if you work hard you could get promoted in 6 months. Think long term...worst case you get a badass resume and great experience.
Hi Lyft. I am also interviewing with you. I have not got the numbers from Amazon yet, but I imagine the TC is going to be lower than what I currently get because I will be going down a level. Even though it is a bigger company.
