I am based in California. I had interviewed for Amazon (Seattle ) in September and during the onsite interview HR asked if I was renting or owning a home. This question seemed somewhat awkward to be and I replied I am renting. I didn't get selected for the interview and again got an interview call yesterday. This time another recruiter asked this question as part of the questionnaire. 1. Why does Amazon care if I am renting/owning? Will they be helping in selling my home in California and buying a new one in Seattle if I was owning a home? I do know that some companies do this for extremely valuable senior employees. However I just have 5.5 years of experience and am interviewing for Technical Program Manager position (Lots of people like me :) ). 2. The previous time I had 3 telephonic and 6 onsite. The recruiter just gave me the feedback to apply again later. Will there be lesser screening rounds or everything stays the same? 3. I have a BS & MS in Computer Science. I have 2.5 years experience as Software Developer and 3 years as Business Analyst. I think that for me TPM would be a better fit (read easier interview and a bit less pay) as Sr. TPM role requires 7+ years experience. But both times I got interview calls for Sr. TPM. I really don't mind going into TPM as I really wanna get out of Yahoo. Should I tell the recruiter that they should consider me for TPM instead?
Amazon subsidiary recruiter here 1. We ask this question because we work with a relocation firm who will help relocate you. Owning a home has different expenses versus breaking up your lease. On another note not sure why they would ask you this question before the offer stage... 2. You had three phone screens and 6 onsite interviews??? That seems excessive. Agree with the above statement. The specific role probably was not a fit for you. 3. Sounds like a good background :). If you find a role on the website that you would be interested in be sure to ask.
i think they Ask to see how mobile you are, if you are renting more chance to relocate compare to owning house and you don't need big raise to accept offer.
Amazon will help you sell your home and buy one in Seattle if you are owning..that is the only reason they ask If they ask you to reapply that means they are open to hiring you but just not for this role..for every role you will go through same process Regarding positions, it all depends on your performance during interview. Don't get too hung up on roles designations. Amazon scales your role based on your aptitude during interview for tech is what I heard
