Hi, I have been approached last week for a director position at Amazon and wanted to do a quick check on their compensation package before replying. My understanding is that the salary is capped at 160K, there is no cash bonus and stocks are attributed in April. What would be the stock target for a director role? Assume "normal" performance. Thanks
And that signing bonus is significant. I would imagine it would be more than $500k total for L8.
Just to clarify, Amazon caps base at 160k (which is mid career IC base salary). On top of that, you get a 2 year sign on bonus, for which there is clearly some kind of claw back clause where you'll have to repay the sign on in its entirety. In addition, you'll have to endure the harsh, toxic, backstabbing environment for a few years before your stock really kicks in (if you don't quit, get fired, or kill yourself)? That comp structure at Amazon is one of a kind. I imagine it's how they keep most of their revenue, with their margins so low.
Unsure where Workday is getting information. Not even close to the comp structure and spewing information all over this thread that is incorrect. OP feel free to message me.
total comp min.. 500k..
Total comp has wide variance. One data point that I have is 1M. Years 1-2 comp is cash (base plus bonus) and afterwards it moves to mostly stock
Can you confirm a point I'm trying to make? I assume you have to return the bonus (year one and two) if you leave within the first two years of employment. Guessing it's not prorated and needs to be returned in the condition it was given in?
SignIn bonus is paid on monthly basis for 2 years. you don't need to return anything anytime you leave, because you are being paid prorated (not paid the whole bonus at once on joining). L8 total comp is between 500k to 1MM.
Thank you for all answers. I was more interested in the stock given after the two initial sign in bonus. I have heard that stock grants are given every year and they also vest in 12 months. What would be the target for a L8 director position? In other words what could one expect every year from the stock grants?
There is no expectation - it all depends on ur performance
I doubt you'd get the right number on here as there are probably few if any L8 Amazon peeps. I have colleagues that went over at L6 for 325k and 382k RSU initial grants that vest 5/15/40/40 over first four years.. I would imagine L8 would be a multiple of that. At end of your 3rd year you're awarded a performance based 12 month vesting grant that takes care of most of your salary for year 5 and so on. There may also be performance based incentives at L8 I'm not aware of.
L8 would be 800-1m per year total comp
You would be given a two year signing bonus paid monthly from your start date, plus an RSU grant that would be most of your year 3 & 4 comp. Director is L8 so I can't speak to these numbers but technically speaking it's a boat load.
