One of my friends studying in grad school had completed 2 of the online assessments from Amazon and it went pretty well since he solved all the coding questions successfully. A week later they got back with an email saying they won't move forward since they have met their full time sde hiring needs for 2017-18 season and its not a reflection of anything related to the application. How can the recruitment for next years sdes get over so early?
Ask about other orgs, not everywhere is frozen. Consumer org went over its approved HC, other parts of the company are still hiring like mad.
He applied for the new grad sde role. It wasn't specific to any org.
Even I got the same response from a recruiter
It's not like companies have an unlimited head count. Every team is approved for a specific head count growth per year.
Well then don’t send 3 + 2 hour assessments to me when you know you are a week from done hiring. Not everyone has time to waste even for Amazon.
I totally agree. It's a fucked up thing and I personally think people should be compensated at market wages for interviewing. A lot of people just seem perplexed that companies can't hire unlimited people year round
Good. We dont want people from online assesments.
Lol you still interview after the assessments...
I m a sde3. In my org i m recommending against online assessment tests from next year.
Wow, it didn't take long for the step back from unsustainable growth to show some signs here. Amazon was on a dream boom from November up until July or so, but when you hear about people performing well but getting no compensation adjustment because RSUs appreciated, that's worrisome. I know, I know, an ebb and flow pattern in recruiting is normal. But university hiring is lifeblood for a tech company. It'll be really interesting to see how Amazon weathers the next sector- or market-wide downturn when it arrives. Bezo's hyper-aggressive "all in" growth strategy kicked ass for a lot of the bull period, but I don't know if it'll scale to hibernation with the bears. At least, not without a lot of pain.
Just got that email from them as well after completing both online assessments and wasting 5 hours of my life that I will never get back.
