Anyone else find food delivery fees have gotten beyond egregious?

When Uber eats launched, they aggressively marketed promos and free $20 to make it habit forming, and had reasonable fees. I just wanted to get some pho. At the restaurant it’s $15, on the Uber eats menu it’s $19.50, with all the fees and tip it came out to $35. Even without the tip of $4, it’s more in fees than the actual meal itself. I get it’s a luxury and can be valuable at times, but I think it’s gotten out of control. I’m so tempted to build a non profit app that just breaks even to curb this. I probably can’t and won’t, but tempted nonetheless. #delivery #uber #grubhub #postmates

Try local delivery platforms like Slice. Still you have to pay $10 to get ypur $30 pizza delivered to the door, which reflects a labor shortage in United States

Amazon potsmoker Jun 6, 2022

I’d much rather do this. Since these platforms aren’t predatory to businesses and deliver folk.

Slice is pretty much the only delivery I do now. Reasonably priced

Lol i usually find walkable places and pickup to skip on fees but even then the choices suck. Just support some local businesses without going thru an app

That’s exactly what I did right now. Closed the app, found a new pho place nearby and it’s $14 for the soup and also got an appetizer too.

If ur smart enough to build an uber eats app from scratch ur TC would be a lot higher and u won’t even be complaining about this 😂

I disagree

That’s why I always order when there is promo. If you get premium account, they never give you promo anymore.

See the price of gas and inflation? It’s hit everyone.. the Uber eats driver as well. They can’t throw a hissy fit with their employers or say tc or gtfo!

The apps you are hashtaging are thieves. But they are business apps, the goal is to make money not not make you happy so it’s fair game. Just don’t use them as a normal thing, and do like everybody else: use the coupon they send you by email, so that when they give you 50% reduction it comes down to the original price (+ the tip you need to add for the driver)

Yeah I’ve had a free Uber one pass for a year due to Amex, and they don’t send me anything. I don’t use it too often but when I’m really busy with work I justify the 2x cost for convenience, but it’s been getting progressively worse. I also find it dishonest to show jacked up menu prices by 25%

Roku roku! Jun 6, 2022

Yeah don’t get the pass it’s the biggest scam

The whole model is broken for the US. Most of the US is suburban Labor is costly Gas is costly Distances are large so food gets cold quickly and costs a ton to deliver The delivery model can work in high density areas like Nyc where someone can deliver multiple orders on a bike in 20 mins.

Meta dtzj11 Jun 11, 2022

👆Only works well in high density urban areas.

Western Digital guHH74 Jun 6, 2022

I'll deliver your food for half the price. Just let me get half your fries

Amazon potsmoker Jun 6, 2022

That’s what the tip is for

If you have chase sapphire, just take dash pass. Pretty good with no delivery fees.
