https://www.ft.com/content/22ce95a6-e473-4102-a330-f7d02cfb6fd1 looks like the Digital Markets Act (DMA) is going to investigate and possibly fine Apple and Alphabet for unfairly promoting their app -- and Meta for using user data and privacy -- could get fined up to 10% of global turnover... What are your thoughts? Are apple, Meta and Alphabet culpable?
How else will Europoor earn money. Big tech is their main revenue stream
Totally
Well, they don’t pay taxes, so there should be the way to tax them
The biggest effort of EU has led to an annoying experience where I need to accept cookies on every damn website while my data is still being used freely.
Lol, why not just reject them?
well, maybe the websites should not sell your data then? the law doesn’t say that websites should have a cookie banner
Meta is literally investing billions into DMA.
I’m pro-sensible regulation, but EU regulation is so obviously disingenuous / all for political points
Eu is freaking broke. All for money.
EU is in decline, they cannot innovate so they regulate instead
EU is where technology goes to die. They can never innovate or create anything of their own (Spotify does not count that much). They excel at “regulation” / “policing”. I guess if you are unable to lower costs for your citizens by promoting free markets, you have to step in with the heavy hand of big government.
Policing is an understatement. In the case of AI for example every freaking person I meet in Europe is an overnight AI expert - all fucking talks and bullshit conferences. Clearly they’re broke and need anyway to make a quick buck..
What Europe does is regulate the crap out of everyone so that products become as shitty as their homegrown b.s. It’s communism disguised as capitalism.
EU sees this as a loophole to make money. Shame on them?!
EU is killing their job opportunities offered by these tech juggernauts and does everything they can to raise the jobless rate.
While I appreciate the EU trying to curtail the tyranny of big tech when it comes to regulating their own marketplaces and harvesting data, I’m concerned how this is going to be negatively passed onto the tech worker, especially if these companies keep getting hit with fines. TC: 105K
Your bigger worry should be AI
Yeah the EU also has laws protecting low performers. It's not hard to imagine a slow decrease of HCs in EU.
