Need some advice for choosing the offer: Apple (ict3) - 150k base, 75k sign on, 200k RSU + bonus + refresher (bay area) Amazon (L4) - 155k base, 72k + 52k sign on, 66 stock units (seattle) TC per year is Apple - 200k + refresher + bonus Amazon - 225k I got both offers this week. The role I got in Apple is Data Scientist role in CVML and the role in Amazon is Applied Scientist. Amazon recruiter said this is max for L4 applied scientist role in Seattle. I am very early in my career and good learning opportunity is my first priority. I am leaning towards Apple since I am on H1B and am really afraid of PIP, but I am not sure about the future of DS and my hm in Amazon seems really like me. Any advice with reasoning will be appreciated. Since it is my first post, sorry in advance if I said anything wrong. YOE almost 2 TC <130k Texas #tech #offer #amazon #apple #spotify
Not saying which one is better but keep in mind CoL and no state income taxes in Seattle when you make your decision.
So true. I am living in Texas right now and really feel that income taxes and col can make huge difference.
Why do you want to move out of Texas???
What's the story of PIP at Amazon? For someone who is unaware
I have read many pip stories in blind which really scared me.
Pip isn’t that bad. Are you good at your job? Find ways for your skip level to notice your progress and impact on the team.
That’s a really strong offer for L4. Do you have an advanced degree?
I got statistics master in top 5 university
I’d go with the one that seems more interesting. I don’t think you need to worry about PIP much in the type of role you’re taking.
decent ICT3 offer with 2 YoE! CV is also a handy field to get into. Congrats!
Don't understand how your TC is computed at Apple Usually TC is base + target bonus (median for meets all rating) + stocks vesting in one year and sign on is not usually included as it will go away (amzn is a different scenario) I see your TC as 200k + target bonus at Apple
Sorry this is my first post, l do not know how to calculate TC and let me edit it.
Lol...no need for sorry... There is no standard way to calculate TC Sign on will go away....so I strongly recommend not counting it .... But some suggest adding 1/4th of signon into your TC which is ok to do
Your L4 offer very much looks like L5 offer. I thought max in Seattle for L4 is 180k
The role is Applied Scientist, so I guess it is a bit higher than SDE.
What are the job duties of Applied Scientist?
Wow, L4 started making more than and some L5s 🤐
Applied Scientists vs SDEs. Also bands mostly always overlap.
Ask Apple to match Amazon's offer. You will save lot more $$ in Seatle compare to the Bayarea. Amazon's learning curve is steeper, but at the end choose that you feel comfortable with.
These are two different roles. I can tell you what these mean at Amazon: DS - stats, some modeling, mostly sql on data made available by data engineers AS - stats, models and implementing those theoretical models in production. Writing code. ML engineers also fall into this bucket. I’m surprised that you got an AS offer with a stats masters and no PhD. I think this is a great way to come in at entry level, get paid a lot, learn and then go wherever you want (or stay). In the end depends on if you want to be a DS or AS. I would choose AS for the typically higher TC and higher barrier to entry
Thank you for your reply! It is very helpful! Yea, I also consider AS is a great learning opportunity. Thanks for your advice.

Go to Apple - higher TC, better weather and less PIP stress.
Thanks for replying. Amazon recruiter said I will be on fast track to get L5 promotion. Do you know what does that mean?
That means you will not be promoted in next 2 years.
