Apple vs FB for New Grad (master’s)

Aug 29, 2018 35 Comments

Packages:
FB: Base 115k, RSU 160k, Signon 100k, E3
Apple: Base 135k, RSU 180k, Signon 50k, ICT3

The figures are after negotiations and FB wouldn’t increase the base pay for new grads.

Apple is in the iCloud org.

Apple seems to have better TC and the org has good refreshers, but I wonder how would the outlooks of these two companies compare?

But FB seems to have better benefits and perks. E.g. more vacation days, free everything

facebook wayyy more prestigious. anyone can get apple. i feel like you’ll regret apple and pay doesn’t matter as much early in career because if you make right moves you’ll make it up in the future

It’s not hard for new grad cuz many folks have been practicing LC for over 3 months. I talked to other candidates during my onsite with FB and some of them did all LC questions (800+) three times...

Not true at all. I got a Google offer but failed Azure interview. So you could fail apple and pass Facebook.

Did you know that if you join Apple, you're not allowed to have any side projects?

Not talking about doing a startup either: you can't write a blog post about that new JS framework you've been playing with, or publish a tiny currency converter app.

You're not allowed to compete with Apple in any space, and you're also not allowed to know what Apple is or isn't working on directly or indirectly.

This means that you can't work on anything related to software.

How is it called competing if you are adding an app to their platform? I hope you are trolling. If not it's ridiculous.

Don’t let your decisions be driven by purely money. Culturally the companies are very different. What work excites you more. You’ll be well off at either company.

If this is your first job, don’t make the TC or money the only or the primary reason to join one vs the other.

Look at what teams you may be joining and ask insiders how those teams are.

Early in your career, you want to maximize your learning and experience - which maximizes your income later on at a much faster growth rate.
