I would rent for a while. The market is pretty volatile and the prices in the Bay area are inflated. I recently moved here as well and I'm planning on renting for at least a year
On the other hand, people have felt the prices were inflated for years, and now they’ve doubled. The question is, what will slow it down.
Redfin is a great option with like hassle if you must buy.
Check out flyhomes.com. (founder is a friend of mine)

Umm if you are going to "handle the search" you don't need an agent. Just hire a flat free lawyer for paperwork. Then again if you just moved you will quickly learn you need an agent to handle the search lol.
You don’t need a lawyer to buy a house in Bay Area.
Nope but it would be silly not to have a lawyer involved. 500 bucks to ensure your million+ purchase is sounds is a no brainer.
Reali.com Nice co-founder
I use a real estate agent in the area and she’s really amazing. I don’t think she will give you that much cash back though. The average commissions is 1-2% and the seller’s agent has to share w buyer’s agent.
Hi can you share the realtors name. Thanks!
Try this guy. We’ve used him to sell our house. He did a good job for a very good price for us. http://www.intelligentbuyer.com/
I bought my home through Redfin recently. I felt it transparent compared to all local real estate agents.
